Terms of Use
Simple, plain-English terms for a simple app. The short version: your data never leaves your computer, the app is free and open source, and we're not liable if something goes wrong.
Data Storage & Privacy
Everything stays on your machine
Budgy stores all of your financial data โ expenses, income entries, savings goals, settings, and preferences โ exclusively as plain JSON files on your local device. No data is ever transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party. We do not operate any backend infrastructure that could receive or process your personal information.
No accounts, no cloud sync
Budgy does not require you to create an account, sign in, or authenticate in any way. There is no cloud synchronisation, no automatic backup to remote storage, and no telemetry or usage analytics collected from the application.
You own your data completely
Because all data resides on your device, you have full ownership and control at all times. You can locate, copy, back up, move, or delete your data files using standard operating system tools. Uninstalling Budgy removes the application; your data files remain wherever you stored them until you choose to delete them.
Acceptance of Terms
Agreement by use
By downloading, installing, or running Budgy in any form โ including the Windows installer (.exe) or the Linux AppImage โ you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the application.
Updates to these terms
We may revise these Terms of Use from time to time. Updated terms will be published alongside any new release. Continued use of Budgy after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. We encourage you to review this page whenever you update the application.
Open Source License
MIT licensed
Budgy is open-source software released under the MIT License. You are free to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the software, subject to the conditions of the MIT License included in the source repository.
Source code
The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub. You are encouraged to inspect the code, verify the data-handling behaviour described in these terms, report issues, and contribute improvements.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Provided "as is"
Budgy is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the application is with you.
Financial accuracy
Budgy is a personal budgeting tool intended to help you organise and visualise your own financial data. It does not constitute financial advice. We make no guarantee as to the accuracy of calculations, currency conversions, or any other outputs produced by the application. Always verify important figures independently.
Limitation of Liability
No liability for data loss
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you are solely responsible for maintaining backups. We are not liable for any loss of data resulting from hardware failure, accidental deletion, operating system issues, or any other cause.
Limitation of damages
In no event shall the authors or copyright holders of Budgy be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability โ whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise โ arising from, out of, or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software.
